Formula

Engagement Rate = (Likes + Comments + Shares) ÷ Followers × 100

How this calculator works

Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares) ÷ followers × 100. It tells you what share of your audience actually interacts with a post. A healthy Facebook engagement rate sits around 1–3%; above 3% is excellent.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good Facebook engagement rate? +

For most pages, 1–2% is average and anything above 3% is strong. Smaller, niche audiences typically post higher rates than very large pages.

Should I use followers or reach? +

Engagement rate by followers is the most common benchmark and what this tool uses. Engagement rate by reach (interactions ÷ people who saw the post) is useful when reach varies a lot between posts.

How do I calculate engagement rate for a whole month? +

Add total likes, comments, and shares across every post in the period, then divide by followers and multiply by 100. For a per-post average, divide that result by the number of posts.

Why is my engagement rate dropping as I gain followers? +

Larger audiences usually engage at a lower percentage because organic reach is spread thinner and casual followers interact less. A falling rate alongside growing raw engagement is normal.

Do video views count as engagement? +

Standard engagement rate counts likes, comments, and shares, not passive views. Some marketers track a separate engagement-by-reach metric that includes clicks and video plays.
